Josephine is 1 week old today! Below is the story of Josephine's birth and first week of life for those who are interested and also for us to remember and share with her when she gets older.

PREGNANCY
My pregnancy with Josephine was fairly smooth. I definitely felt the aches and pains of pregnancy a lot more than I did while pregnant with Adrienne and Cecilia, but I was so grateful to have a healthy pregnancy with no complications. Being pregnant, working full time, and taking care of two children is no joke! I realize now how few pictures I took while pregnant with Josephine.  Here are the only ones I could find.

Adrienne was obsessed with my belly. She gave it kisses and talked to it every day.

BIRTH
I woke up around 4 in the morning feeling contractions. They came on strong and were immediately 5 minutes apart.  Josh was planning to go to work that day as I was scheduled to be induced the next day. He quickly called into work and we jumped in the car for the hospital. We got to the hospital around 6am and the contractions were 2-3 minutes apart! I thought she was going to come right away but she waited until just after noon to arrive.

When Josephine was born she had the umbilical cord wrapped tightly around her neck. I was glad that I did not see her because afterwards Josh told me that her whole head was dark purple. The doctor had to cut the cord quickly before she was even all the way delivered. The doctors took her to the warming station immediately and suctioned her out and we heard her sweet cry within just a few seconds of them working on her.

We stayed in the hospital for just over 24 hours.  Since Josephine was such a large baby (totally unexpectedly!) she had to have her blood sugar monitored regularly and we almost had to stay extra long because of this. Luckily her sugar levels ended up being okay and we headed home to a quiet house. Adrienne, Cecilia, and Bruce all spent the week at Grandma and Bopa's house so we had a bit of time at home with just Josephine.

FIRST WEEK AT HOME
We have enjoyed our first week as a family of 5. Josh had the whole week off of work so we have all been together. The girls were excited to meet Josephine and Adrienne started loving on her right away. Cecilia needed a little warmup time but she is showing a lot more interest in her now.

We are so lucky to have little Josephine in our lives! More updates to come!
